Renaming of AGO’s department of Indigenous and Canadian Art
ACI author and curator Georgiana Uhlyarik named gallery’s curator
The Art Gallery of Ontario has renamed its Canadian art department to the department of Indigenous and Canadian Art. The department will continue to create dialogue around Canadian art by presenting dynamic solo and group exhibitions and questioning the colonial history of the Canadian art scene. The gallery will strive to spark conversation by representing a range of voices and perspectives in Canadian art.
The AGO has also appointed two new curators to oversee the department’s collection and permanent installation and special exhibitions: Wanda Nanibush and Georgiana Uhlyarik (author of the ACI art book Kathleen Munn: Life & Work).
