Emily Carr in Context
Canada’s experts on Carr’s emergence onto the international stage
ACI contributors Gerta Moray and Sarah Milroy lecture tonight at the Vancouver Art Gallery on the growing international reputation of Emily Carr. A painter and an award-winning author, Carr (1871–1945) created bold and vibrant images of British Columbia’s coast and its peoples. Among the most significant Canadian artists of the early twentieth century, she is also one of the few recognized North American women painters of this period. Stay tuned for the ACI’s online art book Emily Carr: Life & Work, authored by Lisa Baldissera, to be released next month!
