Community & Land Stewardship
through the art of Pitseolak Ashoona
Grades 9 to 12
Pitseolak Ashoona (c.1904–1983) was a trailblazing figure in the world of modern Inuit art. The activities in this guide encourage students to explore the Inuit principles of knowledge and understandings of land and community as represented in artworks by Pitseolak Ashoona. They also ask students to consider their own communities and to critically examine sources of information about Inuit by both Inuit and non-Inuit media sources.
