With conflict as the catalyst for its production, war art contains an inherent dynamism. In these selected works, starting from the early years of settlement in Canada and extending to the present day, art tells the story of how the country has imagined itself as a military power. From images of great leaders and soldiers on the front lines to loved ones left behind and witnesses reflecting on battles at home and abroad, diverse points of view are presented in multidisciplinary formats, including paintings, photographs, monuments, and decorated objects that capture the complex feelings brought to the surface in times of war.
