General Idea: Inventing History and Making it Real
AA Bronson in conversation with Sarah E.K. Smith and Luis Jacob
On May 19, the Art Canada Institute was honoured to have General Idea’s co-founder AA Bronson participate in the launch of General Idea: Life & Work by Sarah E.K. Smith, the eighteenth title in the ACI’s Canadian Online Art Book Project.
The event, held at the Royal Ontario Museum, featured a conversation between AA Bronson (artist, co-founder of General Idea), Luis Jacob (Toronto-based artist and curator), and Sarah E.K. Smith (ACI author and Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University) that explored the origins and art of General Idea. Working and living together for twenty-five years, AA Bronson, Felix Partz and Jorge Zontal as General Idea created internationally acclaimed art that addressed queer identity, commerce, consumption, and the media.
